08/30 Homework

Homework:
Read: Pages assigned in the last post.
Draw: On one page of your sketchbook, in neat rows, in pencil only, a minimum of 12 kitchen tools. Keep the drawings simple. We will review on Thursday.

Note: The sample below shows office supplies, however, you will be doing kitchen supplies. I do want you to notice how simply the drawings are done and that they are evenly spaced.

8/25 Homework

For the weekend, please review the 
following in your text book, do not labor over them, just review the text and symbols, on Tuesday you can compare the book illustrations to the actual program and it will help you to become more familiar with the layout of the program.These cover topics that we have worked with in class. 
If you copied the text book from the class folder in scratch read the following:
Pg. 25-29 Editing Paths
Pg. 39-42 Workspace Basics
Pg. 49-54 Tools
Pg. 84-90 Drawing Basics
If you have the Illustrator CS6 textbook read the following:
Pg. 37-54
Pg. 75-88
Pg. 111-123
Pg. 153-161
Pg. 225-234
No need to read both, its the same information, only different versions of the book, so the information appears on different pages.

For the weekend, in your sketchbook, on 3 separate pages, write out the alphabet in capitol letters in the following ways. 
Page 1. Organic letters

Page 2. Geometric looking letters
Page 3. You pick a style


Write/draw in pencil, Each letter should be at least an inch in size and have body, no single lines. 
DO NOT INK OR COLOR THE LETTERS

For homework: 
Character Design Project
In your sketchbook, consider the two photo's below, mouse and pencil. I would like you to draw 4 different versions of a mouse character, male or female that uses a pencil or its tail as a writing object. The character must look like they are a 100 year old scribe or writer, please use props to help convey the characters look. Draw large, pencil only, I will be giving you feedback on Thursday. Have fun.

Homework: 
After watching the Lynda Barry video, think about your childhood, and how you would play, This may may require you to look at old photos or have some type of comfort food that reminds you of childhood. Think about a favorite toy you had, think about what it was like to hold it in your hand. What kind of voice did you use when you played with it. In your sketchbook, draw what you remember about the about the object, full page, keep it simple, in pencil, ink and color if you wish. Do not worry about the drawing, on Tuesday we will look at them and make suggestions if needed. 

This exercise is meant for you to begin thinking about yourself 
as a treasure trove of stories, ideas and experiences.  

Maybe watch some old toy commercials on YouTube. 
See if they help to spark some ideas.

1. Bring your sketchbook with a minimum of 3 different stick figure fruit creatures drawn full body on the same page. Use any drawing materials, color is optional.

2. Watch the video by Lynda Barry, she asks "What is an image", (like Mr. Banana).
